President Obama’s Brackets: A Contradiction

President Barack Obama was asked to boycott the March Madness brackets as a sign of his dedication to student athletes’ and their rights to a real education. The White House received a letter from Mary Willingham and many other supporters of NCAA reform (special thanks to Phillip Jackson and The Black Star Project).

President Obama has created the ‘My Brother’s Keeper’ initiative to focus on the poor literacy levels amongst the African-American community. Instead of proving that he values academics over athletics, the President has participated in completing his March Madness brackets.

Rather than spitting into the wind, President Obama needs to take action to reinforce that academics are more important than athletics. We need to shift the culture to be true to our sons and brothers.
